Gospel Partnership - Practical Support

Welcoming

Each week we anticipate new people will be with us on a Tuesday or Thursday lunchtime. Some will be investigating the claims of Christianity, some will have moved to work in the area, and still others will have wandered in off the street. Welcoming newcomers is a vital aspect of our ministry. It is our hope that these people will continue coming as we all seek to introduce them to others, and look out for them each week. If you would like to be part of our welcoming team, please contact l.ledgister@st-helens.org.uk

Setting-up and Clearing away

Tuesdays and Thursdays involve a significant amount of setting-up to enable the gospel to be proclaimed to our friends and colleagues - for example setting out lunches, laying tables and clearing things away afterwards. If you are able to assist in this way, please contact l.ledgister@st-helens.org.uk

Financially Supporting the Ministry

Interview on financial giving to the ministry, with City Partner Simon Pilcher of M&G:

"Understanding that Christ gave up everything in order to be born in a stinking stable and then die for us, should dramatically change the way we think about giving. It is not something that should be done grudgingly or unwillingly. We don't give in order to gain credit with God. Rather, we give in response to what God has done for us. We want others to come to trust in Jesus as they hear the good news carefully and faithfully explained. It is for these reasons that Christians will give to support gospel work. And our first duty is to support our "home" church. Some of us may attend a different church from St Helen's on a Sunday, but as I am involved in ministry in both places I have an equal duty to ensure that the gospel work in both "home" churches is adequately financed.

"In recent years the City work at St Helen's has not paid its way. We do not think that there should be regular appeals for money on a Tuesday or Thursday lunchtime; we want to keep these events focused on the gospel.

But the current situation cannot continue indefinitely. What is needed today is a new Partnership to recognise that this is our ministry and our responsibility. More of us should be giving and, I suspect that a good number of those who are already giving could be giving more. There are a number of other areas of St Helen's' work that many will also find of interest; for example, the student work costs £165,000, and the budget for training future gospel workers and for mission in the UK is £300,000. These are exciting gospel opportunities and some of us from the City will want to be in partnership with those who are working in these areas. As a minimum though we have a clear duty to cover the costs of the City ministry from which we benefit."

We do hope that you will be able to be engaged in gospel partnership with us this year in the City, actively, prayerfully, and financially.
