How could Jesus be so out of step with the religious establishment? It can be distinctly unnerving when loyalty to the Lord Jesus puts on the wrong side of the establishment. But Luke wants us to be certain that Jesus really is the promised king and any religion that doesn't welcome him is an ugly, short-sighted counterfeit.
