We can try to delude ourselves that we are in control of our lives and the world in which we live. Hannah, an unimportant person from an unimportant town more than 3,000 years ago, realised that this is nonsense. In her prayer, she exults in the incomparable God who is utterly in control. He is the God who saves, who turns the world upside down and who will have the final word. She speaks as a prophet as she points forward to God's rescue first of his people then and ultimately to his rescue of all people who will trust in God. This is a heart-warming prayer that will help us to pray to God before whom we should humble ourselves.
