Receiving from the Father

The world is full of misunderstandings of prayer. It isn’t a neutral activity that makes someone spiritual. It isn’t bending the ear of a distant, unreliable god. For Jesus, prayer is personal. We pray to Jesus's Father and there is no doubt at all about his goodness. The Father responds with a person—his own Holy Spirit. All the requests worth making and all the requests in the Lord's prayer are really requests to be given to the Holy Spirit. We pray to a person who answers with a person.
