Deliverance and distress

At the climax of the David story we might imagine a happy ever after ending. David does return to the capital as the traitor is dispatched. But it feels empty, hallow and plastic. There is so much tension that it forces us to look forward a thousand years, to the one who can resolve the issues David just couldn’t cope with.
